It's the End of the World...

I'm not usually one to get caught up in the "end of the world" hype but what would May 21, 2011 be (to me) without taking the time to talk biblical prophecy! Keep in mind I am not a religious scholar, nor am I really all that well versed in the Bible. But I love drawing conclusions, making comparisons and talking to an audience!

April 1, 2011 is apparently 1,978 years since Jesus Christ was crucified (based on a year being 365 days a year) but taking into account a solar year is 365.2422, to get the number of 'days' since Crucifixion, you have to multiply the number of years by the number of days in a solar year - which comes to 722,449 days since Jesus Christ was crucified.

Next if you look at numbers that are of important religious significance - 5, 10 & 17 (to find the meaning, read this) and you multiply those numbers together once and then square them, you get 722,500. Which naturally, Preacher Camping realized is only different from the days since Crucifixion by 51! Coincidence? He thought not and decided to add 51 to the number of days since Crucifixion (because that's obvious) which brings us to May 21, 2011 - today.

He also decided the time would be around 6pm Pacific (7pm Mountain). Who knew Jesus was going to be so courteous to let us all know what time he'd be arriving! I like company like that! So as I type this, we're just over an hour and a half until the Rapture! I know I won't be going anywhere (meaning I'll have to endure on Earth cause I'm a nasty sort) so we're preparing a nice barbecue dinner for my Mom & Step Dad. Ribs, twice baked potatoes and corn on the cob. Then we're going to play Wii and eat Angel food cake with strawberries and whipped cream... OHHHHH!!!! Is it just coincidence that we're having Angel food cake?! I think not! It's a sign...

Anyway, I suppose if he's right we'll know soon. If not, we've always got next year when the Mayan calendar runs out (because, yanno, the first priority for a dying civilization is to ensure they have enough days left on their calendar) and I recall the end of the world back in 1983 when I was 8 - I wrote my will that time. I'm really glad it didn't end then because I think I left everything to my sister and I know she would have just ruined my Rockstar Barbie!

I wish I had some deep and profound thoughts with the end so rapidly approaching but I don't have anything profound. I will ask my sister and the kids their thoughts...

Me to them: "Do you have anything profound to say?"

TroubleMaker: "No."

My niece: "To preserve nature and stop destroying it."

Princess: "No, I'm all out of deep and profound things to say."

I guess that just about sums it up! Oh... Except that R.E.M knew it was coming too - or at least I think they did... One of the lines in the song "The End of the World (as we know it)" talks about it happening at six o'clock... Coincidence?! I think not!

What's your life path (number)?

I admit fairly readily that I’m a little lost in this life sometimes. I have all the things I thought I wanted - a nice home, a loving and devoted husband, an amazing, beautiful, healthy, perfect son, a good job with decent hours good pay and excellent benefits. We get a good vacation each summer in our great little motor home and we have lots of cars. We live in a good neighbourhood with great neighbours and all the check boxes for summing up a successful and full life are checked. I’m (mostly) healthy and we do OK with the things we want.

But I very often feel like something is missing… Naturally, like every mother, I want more time with my son and more time at home. I have a creative streak that is left untapped recently but I know that it is deeper than that.

During a recent lunch break, I randomly typed into the Google something like “the meaning of life” or “how to find your life path” and it came up with a bunch of different sites – the one that caught my eye was "your life path number"... Now, years ago, I was “into” astrology and palmistry and all the things that go with the occult. I don’t really know what I thought of all of it, but I suppose I must have decided there was a fair amount of truth behind it all as I kept reading and “believing”. But with time and most fads, my interest waned and I moved on to different things.

But I decided today to calculate my life path number and read what it had to say about me. As it turns out, I’m a “5” and honestly, it is me to a “T”… Or at least it is in my own eyes! I don’t think I’m quite as adventurous as it describes but I don’t like to be bored and I like to live life well. It says I’m always questioning life and the answers so I thought “Holy cow – the accuracy is frightening, let’s see what the rest of family is like…”

My husband is an “8” and couldn’t be farther from the truth… Save for his being a fun sucker (OK- that’s not fair – he’s not and it’s not really what it said). What it did say was that the negative “8”’s were often suppressive of the enthusiasm and effort of other members of the environment. This sentence does aptly, again in my mind, describe how I sometimes see my husband. He is a practical person who doesn’t dwell in the make believe. I am very much a dweller and a make-believer and I do know that this does tend to drive my husband a little crazy.

TroubleMaker is a “4” and although he is two and one half, there are parts that I do see developing that accurately match the description of his ‘life path number’. It said he is “strong willed” (often mistaken for being stubborn) and he is very set in his ways and he is determined to handle things his own way. These describe him perfectly – however, he is two and one half and I believe that description likely describes just about any toddler!

So I suppose, like horoscopes, you can bend anything to fit, if you try! What is your life path number – does it describe you?

Signs of Paranormal Activity

Many years ago, I believed in ghosts, past lives and anything paranormal. I know I truly believed I had experienced encounters with ghosts and I recall thinking I knew things that I couldn’t know so I chalked it up to experiences brought forward from a past life. With age, experience and marrying the world’s biggest and most adamant skeptic, my beliefs faded and the person I call “rational Corrie” emerged. Although I knew what I had experienced, I was able to put those things from my mind and be rational and smart and not a ‘believer’. Ghosts – not any more real than vampires, the boogyman or monsters under the bed. Past lives? Whack jobs with too much time on their hands. UFO’s? Crazy people with drinking problems. I could explain it all away.
And I still do – those things haven’t necessarily changed for me. And although my planned post for today was to be about “Learning your Design Style”, something happened to me yesterday that made me give pause for the things that go bump in the night.

While off measuring and photographing a building here on Campus, I had a weird thing occur. No ghost-l like images or haunting noises, not even flickering lights or ‘cold’ spots.

Most likely, it was a camera malfunction but what if it wasn’t?

Exhibit “A” – Picture Taken 2:36pm
First picture taken of the area – low light conditions. I had been photographing another building prior to this with no issues. As you can see, this picture is fine too.

Exhibit “B” – Picture Taken 2:37pm
Five pictures after the first and the big circular flash of light in the upper left corner was what first alerted me to the fact something was “wrong” with the camera (I saw it on the display after the picture was taken). I really thought it was just a reflection – even though there was nothing there for the flash to reflect off of.
I did try cleaning the lens with a soft cloth, it made no difference.

Exhibit “C” – Picture Taken 2:38pm
Three pictures after “B” – all the pictures between we in the same area and filled with the many spots of light seen on this photo. This is the ‘best’ in the sense that there were so many spots on the other photos that the picture was out of focus.

Exhibit “D” – Picture Taken 2:39pm
Seven pictures after “C” and in the same area but looking due North (previous were North West) as you can see, there are no spots and the camera appears to be ‘back to normal’. All the pictures I took after this were fine.

Exhibit “E” – Picture Taken 8:03am (the next morning)
I believed that the camera had malfunctioned and was broken so I started taking random snaps of my work area and cannot recreate the issues I saw the day before.

It got me thinking about the experiences I had before (when I was younger) and I felt no chills or weirdness like I remember feeling before (I can’t believe I’m admitting this ): when I had experienced ghost-like encounters in my youth, I always felt a ‘presence’; yesterday, nothing.

Was there something there? Was it a trick of light? Was it a camera malfunction?

I can’t say as I know for certain but maybe I wasn’t alone…
